The Senior EHS Specialist will support the EH&S Director with the development, implementation, and administration of environment, health and safety policies and programs. They will help researchers, engineers, and plant operations teams maintain compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations. They will learn and grow as they are exposed to new and interesting challenges. This role will work closely with the research, development, and manufacturing teams to ensure that Twelve is providing a safe place to work for all team members.

This is hybrid position based in our Berkeley, CA or Alameda, CA offices with regular travel to Moses Lake, WA and other Air Plant sites (travel approximately 10% - 20% annually).

What you will do

  • Be the technical team’s point of contact for EHS questions, code compliance, equipment/process review

  • Support environmental compliance efforts that include environmental permitting/compliance (e.g. air, wastewater, stormwater) and hazardous waste management

  • Provide remote and on-site support to Twelve’s Air Plant operations in Moses Lake, WA and other sites

  • Develop and manage the implementation of a variety of occupational health and safety programs, including but not limited to electrical safety, process safety, chemical safety and pressure safety

  • Lead incident and accident investigations, root cause analyses and corrective action identification

  • Lead and/or partner with internal teams in HAZOPs, Failure Mode & Effect Analyses, Process Hazard Assessments and Job Hazard Analyses

  • Proactively influence engineering and experimental designs by applying EHS knowledge to promote worker safety and health

  • Perform occupational health and safety assessments such as ergonomic assessments, exposure assessments, and ventilation system evaluations

  • Manage communication with local and state regulatory agencies regarding permitting compliance

  • Collect, organize and maintain data and records for EHS permit compliance and reporting

  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of EHS training to all team members

Who you are

  • You have 7+ years of experience in an EHS role with progressively increasing responsibility

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, engineering, chemistry, or environmental science related field

  • You are knowledgeable on federal, state and local regulations as well as environmental, health and safety best management practices

  • You have a proven track record of building out and implementing EHS programs and processes

  • You have a background in chemical processing, oil & gas, R&D, or similar industrial settings

  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills

  • You have the demonstrated ability to deliver results through strong planning, organizing and project or program implementation skills

  • You are a collaborative problem solver with a focus on continuous improvement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Process Safety Management (PSM) experience

  • Strong environmental permitting and compliance experience (e.g. air, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste)

  • Strong understanding of building and fire codes

  • Safety engineering experience

  • Extensive oil & gas or R&D experience

  • Startup experience

  • Possessing or working towards EHS credentials such as CHMM, CSP, CPE, or CIH

  • Master’s degree in a related field

At Twelve, it's important each employee is compensated competitively and fairly. In alignment with state legal requirements, Twelve conducts exhaustive research to understand compensation markets. A range for the included position is listed below. Be advised, actual offer details are determined by job category, job location, and candidate skill level.

United States Wage Range: $140,000 - $190,000

Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidate's diverse sets of skill levels.
