Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and develop chemistries that can enable the processing of engineered bio-leather materials
  • Leveraging deep knowledge of leather wet-end processing, work with the Chemistry Group Team Lead in establishing project objectives and timelines related to formulation workflows needed to cater to potential customer requirements
  • On-board and lead the projects towards completion against established deliverables
  • Collaborate with material scientists and other cross-functional teams to deliver the right formulating chemistries based on the application’s target properties
  • Analyze data from various mechanical and other tests to understand the material properties, compare to customer requirements, and make data-driven decisions
  • Communicate the progress and provide updates in the form of technical reports and presentations in various meetings
  • Rigorously document detailed procedures and observations and work with the quality team to ensure proper reporting
  • Interact with partner tanneries and participate in technology transfer of developed formulations and chemistries for target applications
  • Maintain lab safety and provide safety guidance to research associates in the lab

Experience, Skills & Knowledge:

  • Masters in organic chemistry, leather technology, or other related science, with 6-8 years of relevant experience
  • Be well versed in the theory and practical hands-on application of leather wet-end processing and chemistries used in tanneries
  • Knowledge/Experience of delivering leather products into the Automotive and/or footwear industry desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to plan experiments and reach data-driven, statistically significant conclusions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Track record of working as a team-player and being detail-oriented and organized
  • Ability to travel as needed to support business needs (50%)
